Pregnancy has a way of bending time. Some days feel endless, and yet the months slip by before you’ve had a chance to catch your breath. That’s why so many mothers across Gympie and the Sunshine Coast ask me the same question: “When is the best time for maternity photos?”
The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Every body, every pregnancy, and every journey into motherhood looks different. But if you’re planning a maternity photoshoot in Gympie or the Sunshine Coast, there are a few things to keep in mind.
I usually recommend booking your maternity session between 32–37 weeks.
At this stage, your bump is beautifully pronounced, while your body still holds enough comfort and energy to move, walk, and relax during your session.
For some, earlier feels right. For others, they prefer to wait until those final weeks when anticipation is at its peak. My role is not to box you into a timeline, but to help you feel at ease wherever you are in the process.
One of the things I love most about this work is the range of backdrops we have nearby.
For this maternity session, we stayed indoors. The intimacy of a home or indoor setting can be just as powerful as the wide-open fields of Gympie or the golden light along the Sunshine Coast.
It’s less about the location and more about how it feels: the way you cradle your bump, the light falling across your skin, the stillness in the waiting. Whether we’re curled up in the comfort of home, wandering through country fields, or standing at the edge of the ocean – your maternity photos will reflect your story.
While the ideal time to be photographed is between 32–37 weeks, I always encourage mothers to book their maternity session a few months in advance.
Maternity is one of the most time-sensitive seasons to capture, and for that reason, it’s very important to secure your session as early as possible. Babies don’t always follow our plans, and calendars fill quickly – mine included!
I work with both Gympie and Sunshine Coast families, and I hate having to turn people away. Booking early not only guarantees your place, but also gives us time to talk through locations, wardrobe options, and the little details that will make your session feel like you.
There is no wrong time to choose to be photographed in this season.
Some Gympie and Sunshine Coast mothers schedule their shoots earlier to feel comfortable. Others wait until the very last weeks because they want to hold onto that anticipation as long as possible.
Your photos will matter not because of the date on the calendar, but because they anchor this season into memory – proof that you were here, carrying them, loving them, long before you met them.
If you’re expecting and wondering when to book, my best advice is simple: trust yourself. You know your body, your story, and your timing better than anyone else.
Whether you’re 28 weeks or 38, I’ll be here to capture it. Because time doesn’t wait, and once this season has passed, all that remains are the photographs that remind you of how it felt to be here.
